Performance of 17 | Mahalia | TEDxTeen
“I hadn’t thought about how good it was to be seventeen…and I had never really taken the time to think about…how I felt at that point in my life. So I wrote this song and it’s called ’17.'”
– Mahalia, 2016 TEDxTeen #Untapped Performer
At the age of 17, Mahalia has accomplished the ability to propel herself into the next generation through her music. Her performance of “17” at this year’s TEDxTeen, highlighted reminiscing on the carefree attitudes of individuals at seventeen.
As an acclaimed musician, Mahalia has continuously hosted her own ‘Mahalia Presents’ nights in Leicester, England for a few years. Her debut album and upcoming EP are going to be nothing less than spectacular.
As we reflect on her song, many can ruminate on the importance of individuality. Teenagers within our society are too afraid to embrace their true personalities; rising from the conformity of boxes created by society. Instead, they remain hidden within the shadows of their peers.
